Rant! Rant!

A few things have been getting me down the past few days. It’s nothing of any real importance, but.. after a while, i gets so frustrating! I’d like to see if anyone agrees.

Noone can work, continuously. Everyone has distractions.. and breaks from doing work. Break.com is a HUGE website, and to be honest.. i can’t understand why. Well yes, obviously the owners know what they’re doing, it’s an old website.. lala.. lala. But, before i go and take a look at the front page today, let me take a guess at what might be there.

- “Some dude”/”This guy” - in a description
- Ending of a video is given away..
- The description of one video, will be completely irrelevant tothe actual video.

So, let’s go to the homepage, and take a look… … Ah, the first video kind of.. sums everything up.

“This guy tries to show off for his friends at work but loses control when he pops a wheelie and ends up breaking his leg.”

Ffs.. he doesn’t only tell me what happened in the video.. but, how it ends.. (so really.. i don’t even need to watch it anymore) But, i do watch them! Just because he lies. Yes, The video is simply.. well, let me give my description that should go on the site.

“A motorbike wheelies goes bad”

It’s not the most adventurous, no. But..

- I didn’t see anyone else there? I thought he was showing off to all of his friends..
- How does the Break author, know he was at work?
- How does he know he is a”guy”
- “pop” a wheelie?
- He broke his leg? Maybe the editor of the videos, gets enjoyment out of them.. and then cuts the end off of them so noone else can watch it, because i didn’t see any legs get broken there

All of you have to visit funny video sites? I don’t mean Youtube. Youtube are allowed to post shitty descriptions, as it’s user submitted and stuff.. and the admin of youtube doesn’t edit the title and descriptions.

Maybe, the same bloke who writes the break descriptions, should also be a movie critic. “Some dude and a girl, go on the worlds largest boat, that can go 600 miles per hour. In the end, the ship crashes and the dude dies”

And for anyone who hasn’t seen Titanic.. i’m sorry.

Next on my list, is Sitepoint auctions. Now, i’m going to keep this brief. Infact, let me talk about paypal first. I spend quite allot of money online, so have my bank card verified in paypal.. I transfer money from my bank to paypal, every now and again.

I went to transfer money, a week ago.. and it got rejected. But, it was over the Christmas period.. so, i figured i’d just try again..

REJECTED

And i was charged £23.78.. fantastic! So, that meant my paypal was like.. £13.00 in minus figures.. which meant i had to verify my bank account again (they removed it).. which means, it’s going to be another WEEK before i have anything in there..

Back to the Sitepoint rant, which is kind of interlinked. So, i decide i’ll just sell one of my sites.. to give me some cash. But no. $20 to create a listing now on Sitepoint! I think they were rumours about charging you, per post.

Not really. But, “Want to buy”.. to make a new thread, it’s $5. Now, the $5 doesn’t really boter me all that much.. Afterall, they are just trying to do the same as the rest of us. But, it’s the process.. of adding thoes $5.. that takes like.. 10 minutes, to request to buy something? Even ‘trade your services’ costs $1.. $1.. pfft..

Back on track - The sitepoint sites for sale, is going really downhill. Imagine, if you looked in your local newspaper, and went into the animals section and saw

Dead dog. Potential to be a great pet.

? Let me just try to sum it up.. what people love to say..

• Site established 1 day ago. It’s made $100.. so.. $100 x 365 = $365,000 asking price. Take a look at what i mean..

Just throw in some $$ and capital letters. I will definately buy it then.. even though “Monthly Revenue: Assume None”because it has “Great potential”

So. Now, since i cannot buy or sell anything.. i decided that i would just work on my websites a little. Until my server started running slow.. and then not at all.. and then the other websites that i needed, started running slow.. and then not at all. My host is http://www.interserver.net by the way.

Back when i had Coshed, they guaranteed 99.9% uptime. GUARANTEE, means.. you know.. guarantee! But, my uptime for one month.. was 43%. Which made me lose mid $X,xxx.xx that month…

So, i’m pretty stuck. There’s pleanty more things that i can’t stand atm.. but i’ll leave that for a rainy day

Few site adjustments.

If you’ve taken the time to look at ‘my links’ at the bottom of my blog, I have a site called Doonuts. Now, doonuts is all unique coding.. design.. whatnot. Everything a site needs to be good, now.

I had a video player made for Doonuts. It was GREAT! But the reason i’ve never really promoted the site, was the same reason I like WMV players better than FLV. The video was jagged, unaliased even. I spent more money on getting people to fix the player, than it costed to make it in the first place.

Now the player looks a less personal and professional, at least I can start giving the site some much needed attention and love, and promote it a little if not allot.

Along with joining Flickr a few weeks ago (Sorry for not posting any new photos, my life isn’t all that exciting..) I joined facebook, a few days ago. I never really liked facebook, afterall.. you pretty much have to login before you can do ANYTHING, which instantly put me off. It’s good when little sites do that sort of thing, Websites Forums for example.

Upon signing up (involved creating a new Yahoo ID) and logging in.. I can’t really see why the site is so big. It’s horrible to navigate! I don’t think i will be logging into facebook much more.

So, i said last time, i was making a site.. hoping to finish it in 24 hours. Well, i was slightly over par, so.. i’ll leave it at that. But, after that’s done.. All my attention has to go to Pornaroo oh.. and Doonuts yes.. So, I think by next blog update I guess i’ll be selling a site of mine that i don’t want.. DevCustoms.com is a pretty good candidate at the moment. We will see.

Real Start of New-Year

January the second. Everyone, and everything has settled down now. I guess it’s back to old boring routines, that is unless you made promises you can’t keep to yourself. Today, right about now, i should be starting to go back to the gym. I want to go, really.. i do.. but, to get ready, drive there.. etc.. it’s going to take me about 4 hours. I could be spending thoes 4 hours way more productively.

Now, a while ago as some of you probabally know, i tried my hand at forums. Photography Forums for that matter. I’m not sure how many of you, actually have forums, i mean - had them from the start. But, getting members to come is hard enough, and then trying to get them to register and post, it’s a nightmare!

Boxingforums.org and Boxingforums.co.uk I really kick myself for buying these domains, as much as I like them. I don’t know how to run a forum based on photography, which is HUGE! Nevermind Boxing, which i know nothing about.

SnobSpaces is pretty much all i want it to be now. And since it’s getting 200 visitors a day, and makes a little bit of cash - It means i will be able to sell it. With Pornaroo (nsfw) Soo close to being finished (It is actaully finished, just needs some words and small changes making), i’m going to need to money for initial launching of the site.

To be fair, i’m an idiot for taking on too many projects at once. But again, today.. I’ve bought another domain name (BAHH!!) And hope for this to be a QUICK site. Bish bash bosh kind of thing.

Making a site, the easy way - leaving all my other tough-job sites where they are. Procrastination at it’s best.

Almost New Years

It’s just about come to the end of a quite a boring year. Let me quickly sum up what’s happened over the past 12 months..

• Kicked out of college for the second time, and went self-employed.
• Made a few sites, but didn’t actually launch any.

Well, that was adventurous. Let’s hope 2008 brings more luck. I hope to actaully launch some of the sites that i’ve built this year. But, do you ever spent a long time making something.. and then doubt it? :X

So, in my last blog post i mentioned about re-visiting an old site.. Aha, this gives me a chance to try out the quote button.

I have re-visited a site of mine, that.. I forgot still existed, and didn’t think it would still work as it grabs data from another site. Anyway, i’ve given it a little bit of a revamp.. I’ll tell you about it tomorrow, when it’s a little more finished.

So anyway, i went ahead and did some work on http://www.addmylayout.com. After I sold Coshed, i never had anything to do with myspace again. I created Addmylayout.com a little before that, but never actaully got around to ever launching it (seeing a pattern here?)

Now, i just assumed it wouldn’t work anymore. The user inputs their ID.. then it goes to Myspace, gets a whole bunch of details of theirs (name.. etc) and their layout (CSS) and then brings it back.. yada yada.

But,to my suprise it does actually still work. So, i few little additions here and there, added a basic admin panel to manage and add (the colours, thumbnail) and ready set go!

Now, i have a few sites that use this ‘grabber’. SnobSpaces.com being one of them. I thought SnobSpaces had been attacked by a spam bot, and when i checked my server logs.. the submit page was using a hell of a load of CPU so I removed it. But looking in the admin panel, it might actaully be.. that people were submitting things.

So that’s another site that’s kind of.. working. But, that already has traffic, so it would be beneficial to make it work again and update it.

So, i’m going to spent the next couple of hours playing about with these to see what can be done. And after that, going out for new years! tomorrow, i have a few ideas on a domain i bought and i’ll tell you about how i went on with these sites ^

I’ll spare you all with the new years best wishes.

New Stuff!

Ah, new years eve-eve. 5 RSS subscribers!

A couple of things today, but.. since i am uploading photos right now, i’ll talk about Flickr. Like many internet phenomenons, I am not a member. Twitter, Facebook, Pownce.. I get along just fine without them. However, Since i bought a digital camera earlier this year, i’ve just been collecting Photos on my computer.. and i like to think there are some pretty interesting ones

Since I have a blog now, if someone is interested in reading stuff, i can’t see why they wont mind looking at a few photos now and again. So, i went over to Flickr and made myself an account, and added a little widget-type thing to my page and look! Pictures!

I sat on the sofa last night, and watched a couple of films. Finally got my iTouch setup. There were some USB 2.0 problems (not sure why, i was on usb 2.0..), but.. i think it’s fantastic. I was going to invest in a laptop, i know there is a large LARGE difference, and they are not really similiar in anyway. But, the reason i was going to be getting one, was for when i go away on trips later in the year. Checking emails, and whatever else i need to get done on the iTouch, isn’t too difficult. Sure, it’s no word processor, or Adobe photoshop. But.. for what i’ll use it for, it’s sufficient.

So. I guess this should be the time where i make some new years resolutions? Well, that should actaully be tomorrow but — I’ll have changed them by then so, i’ll blog again tomorrow.

• Have some stable sites, not just 1.. but at least 3
• ‘Make a living’ — Not just live from the money I made before hand
• 300 RSS readers. It’s a long away away from 5, but.. i’ll get by.
• Get this blog earning at least 1/2 of what my server costs me per month.
• Get fit (I think this was last years too, doh!)
• Go on a business trip somewhere. I don’t care where.

Thoes are some pretty dumb ones. However, i’m feeling quite shitty today. (hurting throat, one ear is deaf.. i suspect a cold). But, i have to go to a wedding later so, i’d better get some work done, and pull around.
